It's a new episode of Morning Marketing! This week I will talk about Facebook's ridiculous community standards for articles. Google updates and more! Enjoy!
I'm back! You can Google it! Ha! This is Digital Coffee 2.0. It's a new day and only once a week. I would love to do daily, but, a full-time job does not make this possible. However, Google is not on my good list. They are close to being hated as bad as Facebook. You all know how bad I hate Facebook. It's more of a good loathe. This week I am talking about Google doing some bad things. I also talk about the unnecessary hate AMD seems to get. It's weird. They are making some great hardware lately. Enjoy!
Google you don't need to censor, humans, do that already.
I'm hoping the next generation brings a conservative voice back into the conversation
YouTube, remember your roots.
There's no reason for all this hate AMD is getting.
Mass Effect is out! People love and love to hate it. It's all nitpicking. People have short memories. I wish people would understand that Mass Effect games have always had weird facial animation. However, they forget some other aspects of Mass Effect. The problem, it is a beloved franchise and people think the older games are perfect masterpieces. Find out what I have to say about Mass Effect and more down below.
Blizzard it will always be Battle.net to me
I really hope Destiny 2 is coming to the PC
Seriously you hate facial animations? Play Mass Effect 2 there are some terrible bugs in that game still.
Live streaming is what every social network clamors to make. It is a great way to get users to stay on their site longer. Facebook wants to make sure they continue their dominance as the king of social networks. They released their live program on the desktop today. Hooray! Now everyone can live stream. Be sure to bring puppies and cats! As we progress to a media-rich online world, I hope people remember to read and write. It's important. What do you think about live stream?
Online dating sucks for both genders, but, I think Coffee Meets Bagel does a good happy medium.
If you do Facebook live stream be sure to have a puppy or cat. They make videos better!
Reddit is not about individual profiles. Why are they doing this now?
BF1 DLC is finally here for premium members and it is interesting. I am not sure about the new mode, but, the maps are pretty good. They have a good mix of open tank battles and confined spaces for infantry. I still have to play more of it to get a feel if this is a good DLC. I am not a fan of the unlock system and I wish DICE would just leave it as a different unlock system. Oh well, there's are pros and cons to everything.
I agree that Gears of War 4 did not take too many risks
Twitch Desktop App is very similar to Curse for obvious reasons
The Overwatch community is awesome!
Russian hacking. It's always big news! The media has a fascination with the Russia. I do think it's time for them to break-up. However, the Department of Justice released a statement claiming Russian involvement with the Yahoo incident. It did hurt Yahoo a lot. They had one of the worst hacks in recent memory and it damaged their brand quite a bit. We shall see if Russia will hand over these people or just not play ball.
Tech companies do not care about immigrants unless it involves their bottom line.
This "Town Hall" feature is not going to be good...
The media loves to blame the Russians. Even though, this is more credible now.
Facebook has a love affair with Snapchat features.
Middle Earth details were finally released. They did not disappoint, this game looks to expand on the last Middle Earth game. We shall see in August if the game can live up to its hype, or become the next No Man's Sky. Speaking of No Man's Sky, there as new update and it's huge! This helps to bring a more robust game. The launch of the game was not good, but, these updates are proving that this game can be great. Find out more down below.
This lawsuit between Oculus, ZeniMax and John is stupid.
Shadow of War looks to vastly improve from Shadow of Mordor
No Man's Sky looks to finally be the game we were hoping for
Vault 7, it sounds like a new vault from Fallout, but, it's not. The bombshell dropped on Tuesday about what the government is up to. It's usually no good. It was discovered that the CIA is spying on everyone. They can do some terrible acts too. Time to talk about this and understand that tech has vulnerabilities. All new tech has mistakes. These are usually exploits of vulnerabilities. However, the government should be willing to help companies combat these things. I will talk about why the government is wrong in doing this and more. Enjoy!
I'm throwing Instagram under the bus.
CIA you should help companies protect your citizens.
I've known about talked about SmartTVs having terrible security.
Anchor 2.0 is great. I love the new direction.
The AMD Ryzen chips launched this week to some interesting benchmarks. The funny thing is the benchmarks are not bad for gaming, they are not better than Intel. Every benchmark I have read has the frame rates above 60 frames per second. It's weird seeing people flip out over nothing. They are not the best benchmarks, but, they are better than the previous CPUs.
The most exciting thing is Middle Earth is getting a sequel. Yes, more information was released on the sequel. Let's hope they do not mess it up! Find out more gaming news down below.
This overblown Ryzen is not good, is stupid.
I really hope they are allowed to still make the Indiana Jones remake
The 1080 ti is an absurd card. There is no reason to buy it.
Snapchat IPO is here! People are wondering if this company could rival Facebook. Twitter has not been a great contender for a while. They are still figuring out who they are and time is not on their side. This could be the best contender to rival Facebook in a long while.
I also talk about AMD and Nvidia products unveiled this week and so much more! Enjoy!
If you hate the US, New Zealand has a great deal for you!
Cool! Prisma allows it's followers to create custom filters
Tech companies only care about H-1B visas. They don't care about immigration.
I like Nvidia, but, this new card is ridiculous.
Hootsuite is a popular social media scheduling tool. It recently got into ads with its purchase of AdEspresso recently and now its buying another company. It's an interesting time for the company. It also looks like Hootsuite and Buffer are going in different direction. Buffer is shaping to be more of a content management tool and Hootsuite is more about the ads and analytics side of the business. The industry is maturing and we will see more and more companies buying other ones. This is the nature of business.
Find out more down below.
Every scandal in tech is bleed and politics is gate... hmmm
These new lens games from Snapchat has some interesting potential
Soon people are going to be too lazy to type words in Google search. All emojis!
BF1 or Battlefield 1 got its winter update. It was a great update. I personally do not care about ribbons. I think they are useless and people will get plenty of these ribbons. I never cared for them in BF3 and BF4. It's a personal opinion. I do think DICE needs to look at some other things they missed, but, they are doing a good job balancing for the most part. We will see what happens when the new DLC comes out.
Twitch released some stats about their site and streamers. Unsurprising, Finland is the friendliest place to game. Find out on this episode.
The best place to game is Finland. They are really nice according to Twitch
For Honor Single-Player is eh. Not good or bad, just bland.
I'm really excited to see what AMD Ryzen can do.
Like him or hate him, PewDiePie is a huge influence on YouTube. It's funny how the media loves to hate him. They do not understand that he is trolling them and does not care. He has over 50 million subscribers on YouTube. Unless he does something so egregious, you are getting mad over nothing. Find out what I have to say about this in my show.
Also, Verizon brings unlimited data back. This is in response to what T-Mobile doing well. They finally have a response to losing customers to its competitor. I do not think it will be the same as before, but, it is a nice change. People loved unlimited data and that will always be a fact.
Esty has a majority women sellers. What about men? I thought we cared about equality.
This PewDiePie controversy is overblown and stupid. The media doesn't get satire.
OkCupid stop getting political. You're about dating.
Google ads, they are effective. Even Google has figured out the right formula for their own products. However, Google ads to affect ads. This is going to be an increasing problem the more Google pushes into products. Companies should try to beat their ads. It's not right given that Google knows their system very well, but, that is the world we live in.
The funny part is seeing Facebook activity going down. This may be what most people were feeling. It has been felt for a while that people do not use Facebook as much as they use to. This is why Facebook has moved into developing countries. They know people use other sites or have canceled their accounts.
Pinterest Lens has some interesting business opportunities for brands.
It should be no shock to anyone that Facebook engagement is down.
I am not sure giving an option to disabling comments on LinkedIn is a wise move.
Marketing is becoming on who is the right ideology and it's my generation's fault.
Activision lays off some staff from its developers. This is because of Call of Duty and missing Q4 projections. It's sad and unfortunate to hear people losing their jobs. However, Call of Duty is in a rut. It has had some upgrades to the game, but, releasing games every year makes it boring. We shall see if Call of Duty in 2017 will be different and better. I do hope it does. Even though I do not prefer playing the game, I still like seeing competition from these developers.
I've been playing For Honor open beta a little. It's interesting. This could be a surprise hit for Ubisoft if they can keep it competitive and have an equal distribution between the factions. That was the problem with Planetside 2. In the beginning, one faction dominated. We shall see.
Ghost Recon was a mediocre open world game
If For Honor can keep a balanced ratio in the factions, it might be a hit.
It's good that Mass Effect will have better sidequests.
Netflix blunder is nothing new now. This is the same thing every business is doing. Hate a specific group because it is socially acceptable. The best argument is that if you did this to any other group, that would be horrible. However, why is it acceptable to do it to white people? Netflix should be prepared for some loss in subscribers and a hit in their revenue. People will vote with their wallets. Be prepared.
Twitter looks to be marching towards censorship. This is looking more like a full control on what people can say on their network. Funny thing, when they were new, they wanted public discourse. Now, they would rather tell you it's not good.
US government you are telling potential terrorist to never use their social media accounts because you watch them.
Twitter use to be about expressing your ideas, now it's about being safe.
Flipboard, creating echo chambers is why fake news is a big problem. You are the problem.
Netflix this going to hurt you.
The Super Bowl. It's a time for people to get together and enjoy two teams fighting for a title. One of the reasons why the Super Bowl got so popular is because of the commercials. Businesses decided to make their commercials spectacles that were funny. Football brought people together. It did not matter what political affiliation you were, it was time to watch a great game... hopefully. Now, that seems like an impossible task. This year some businesses decided to go political.
However, it was not all of them. Some still showed their funny side, but, others missed the ball. In this tense time in America, businesses need to understand that it is getting worse. You can stand for something, but, be prepared to suffer some consequences for that. Audi is the best example. They decided to make a commercial about gender issues and forget they were selling cars.
This episode is all about the commercials and other things that happened at the Super Bowl. Mostly, it has to with the messaging and making sure you do not do something that will set a group off or a smaller group. Find out more down below
I feel bad for Budweiser, their message was hijacked.
Audi, you are going to pay for your commercial.
Secret had the best marketing campaign. They knew their audience.
Oh PETA. I grant you that you do some good work, this is not it. We are in the real world, so, why are you picking a battle in a fictitious world? PETA when after the world that is in a constant world. The only reason why they would take on this ridiculous crusade is for attention. Stick to the real world PETA. This was a dumb move. Gamers don't like this and will think of your company as a joke. Here more about what I say about this and gaming news down below.
PETA, how about care about the real animals.
I am in full support of a zero tolerance to cheating.
I wish they would drop the sniper in Sniper Ghost Warrior 3
Oh, tech media, what the hell is your problem. Yes, you should not bow to all of your reader's whims, but, berating them is not good for your business. If your readers are telling you to report on tech more than politics, that may be something to look at. If this same group grows larger and larger, then, it's time to listen. Writing an article about how they should shut up, means you should be doing the same thing. It's time to stop pretending you have the moral authority to tell your readers they are wrong. Stop.
This leads me to the tech companies. Stop. Your arguments are terrible about the executive order on immigration. First, it's not a ban. Stop calling it that. Second, no, your business was started by a White American. Last, we are not a nation of immigrants and stop using that argument. We were, but how long does it take to not be an immigrant?
The tech media needs to stop moralizing and listen to their audience.
I do not understand tech companies hating western culture.
I'm fine if you disagree with me.
Starbucks virtue marketing. It's similar to virtue signaling. Too close from what I've seen. This is a way for a company to capitalize on a political controversy for monetary gain. They have done it before and will do it again. The problem with this is the company equates that every customer is a monolith. That is not true. No one agrees with you 100 percent. I do not care how close you are with your friend, there will be disagreements. Starbucks is painting itself into a corner, if they are not careful, their sales could drop.
The reason is my generation. My generation is the best virtue signaling group I have ever seen. It needs to stop. You are not making a change and you are forcing businesses into stupid decisions. Culture is a pendulum. One moment, one idea is popular, then years later, it switches. This is usually because of the next generation coming of age. I hope Starbucks weighs its risks, because this is a bitter fight in American culture, be sure you know what this means.
Customers are not monoliths and your service is used by people of different thoughts.
OkCupid may have a problem if it keeps doing this.
Virtue marketing. It's like virtue signaling for businesses.
Resident Evil 7, what can you say about it? It was very different from Resident Evil 6. I played and finished the game this week. It scared the hell out of me. I was very gruesome too. If you cannot stand lots of gore, this is not the game for you. It is great to see the survivor horror back in Resident Evil. I talk about why I rather play games than watch movies. Hollywood you really make it easy to skip out on your movies. Your writing is lazy and you do not make new content. Do better. Find out what I think about it and more down below.
Not a big surprise that Overwatch released their Chinese New Year skins
Resident Evil 7 not going the zombie route, good move.
Hollywood, if you want to make fun of half the American population, then, I can play games instead.
Facebook is doing it again! They are copying Snapchat, but, really, just taking Instagram stories and putting it on Facebook. So, they are copying, the copy. They are putting new ads in Messenger and doing away with a personalized trending topic. It's an interesting move for Facebook. I really do not know what to think about this. Then we have Ellen K. Pao. If you do not know her, she is the former CEO of Reddit. She's back on the censorship train. She is calling on Jack to ban the President from Twitter. The funny part is she disabled comments on her Medium post. Find out what I have to say about this and more!
Why does the tech media care about an unsecured tech now? Why did not you care when Hillary did it?
I'm telling you Messenger is going to Facebook.
Ms. Pao you care about diversity, except the most important one, diversity of thought.
It happened, LinkedIn update is a great step forward in 2017. They unveiled their new web design and it looks great. They were talking about it for months and now they are rolling it out. I will add that I do not have it yet. It's a really slow rollout. If you have not gotten it yet, just sit tight. The update emphasizes content. This is just the push to be more modern on their website. It needed to happen. It's the best gift for social media in 2017!
I also talk about the need for businesses to stay neutral. It is the best policy. Unless you can guarantee there is no backlash and you are on the side that wins, it's a bad idea. If you want to know, Target paid the price for this. The bathroom policy good or bad had a consequence. Their sales went down 20 percent. It was a bad business move. Find out why down below.
TripAdvisor needs to step carefully about this new update.
Google still cares about Google+, weird.
Businesses need to stay neutral when we talk about politics.
DICE had some teases for gamers with the BF1 DLC. It was a quick preview of a new tank and maybe a new elite class. I have and I am still enjoying BF1, I wondering what new items this DLC brings. What is known about the DLC is the French are coming. Probably weapons based on the French army and that's all everyone knows outside of EA and DICE. Halo Wars 2 beta finally reached the PC today. There is only one mode and it's interesting. I played a few rounds and I was surprised how fast and fluid it was. I was not impressed, but, I will give it some time. Find out what else I talk about down below!
No one is going to win this case of Zenimax and Oculus.
I'm happy Valve wants to explore the Half-life world.
It looks like BF1 will get a new heavy tank and a new elite class.
This week we say goodbye to Vine as a social network. It will only live as a camera app now. It's not surprising given that Twitter did not put enough resources into it after the initial buy. The main culprit was live video. Live video eclipsed Vine as the preferred media for social media companies to invest in. This is Twitter's way of finding a path to profitability. It has not done that yet. Will you use Vine Camera?
The media criticize Assange for not keeping his promise? What about all the celebrities?
The problem with Evernote was it was a little late on the update and treating its customers badly.
The problem with the Windows e-book store is not being available on every platform.
Let me get this straight, you're going to fire a school employee encouraging kids to go to school?
Facebook announced new live features for brands. Now you can live stream through your brand page on the web. This means brands can do better live video with better equipment. My brand page does not have it yet, but, social media companies do slow rollouts. The good thing for users is there is a potential for better content. That's what digital marketers are all about! Also, be aware that more live streaming is going to happen. This could make it oversaturated in a matter of years. That means making a plan and calculating what is going to be the best content for your fans.
We now turn to the demise of App.net. I know many of you may not have heard about this, but, it was supposed to be the alternative to Twitter. It was an interesting platform, but, it was too similar. The problem now is new companies copying another platform. Never do that. Be your own platform. Find out more down below.
Fake news affects more than journalism.
Twitter needs to focus on who they are, they don't know that.
Gen Z is all the rage now. Sorry, Gen Y, you're old.
If you want to succeed with Gen Z, do interesting stories, good music and be funny.
Nintendo Switch, am I the only one that things it's Wii U 2.0? or maybe, maybe this is what the Wii U should have been. I talk about PC gaming but this is important to discuss. The relaunch of the Nintendo console is interesting. The Wii U is already out the door. I hope this is a success. Nintendo needs a success in this sector. If not, they will go the way of Sega. You can learn more about what I think about the new console in my podcast. Enjoy!
This Gears of War lawsuit seems suspect.
I've played Roadhog and his hook is broken.
Am I the only one that thinks Nintendo Switch is the Wii U 2.0?
Twitter is on a roll. Not a good one, though. They announced Twitter dashboard will shut down. Yes, the dashboard app seemed interesting. Allowing brands and businesses to monitor, tweet and schedule all in one app. 2017 is not starting off on the right foot for Twitter. It was a business decision, but, maybe Twitter should focus on Twitter. No more other apps, just Twitter. Let's hope Twitter finds its way.
However, Facebook is finding a way to repair its relationship with publishers and reports. They have launched a new project dedicated to journalism. This gives them tools and a better way to live stream. It should be interesting to see if this pays off.
I'm so sick of Silicon Valley and not understanding reality
Twitter needs to focus on Twitter.
If you like flashing peace signs, waving or thumbs up in pictures, don't do it.
Verizon, this is sending the wrong message.
Vine is shutting down soon. This is not a surprise to anyone. The social platform was not supported by Twitter and it focused on live streaming. The audience dwindled and it is shutting down. It will live on as a camera, but, take a backseat to Periscope. It's a shame to how this all went down, but, six-second videos did not need a standalone platform. This is the best alternative. It is a reminder that everything can die and build your audience on different platforms is a wise decision. There are other platforms to do short video. There is no shortage of that. Facebook did a short update to brand pages. It's an interesting way to get business to post different content. I wonder if it will be any good. Only time will tell.
Google has been doing some dumb stuff on the business side.
Alex could be great to getting new customers.
The demise of Vine shows you can not solely be on social media. You need a website.
This episode of Gamer's Cafe sips on CES, Overwatch and more. CES is a big event and sometimes a weird one. However, there can be some great new tech coming out. AMD is releasing some promising new addition to its line and Nvidia's new shield, 2017 looks like a very promising year. Seeing more 4k monitors is a good sign for prices to drop. Dell has an 8k monitor and some many more great game news. It does make a gamer giddy!
I do not like glitchers, but, fair warning to stop glitching in Overwatch.
I think fixing Roadhog's hook is a good idea.
Freesync 2 could make the monitors more expensive than Freesync
The new AMD Vega cards could overperform the 1080.
It's January and that means CES is back! CES 2017 seems to be about the smart fridges and convincing people about making their homes smart. It's bigger this year. LG and Samsung are trying to persuade people into an always-connected life. Will people buy into it, is the question. There are some grave security questions about always connected devices. None of the companies seem too concerned about it either. This security concern does warrant me to hold off until they address this issue. No one should have their TV or fridge hijacked and told to pay money for it. However, I am hopefully these companies will wise up and invest time and money into it. This is the best way to get more customers and ensure they stay loyal.
Zuckerberg is going on a road trip!
If you use Lyft and Uber, you can reduce congestion if you share your ride.
I don't understand why someone would need a 2 TB flash drive at 2 grand.
If you're looking for a great DSLR at an affordable price, the GH5 is your camera.
Happy new year! Well, 2016 is done and now it's time to find the digital marketing future! Yes, I will go through some marketing news and give you my predictions of 2017. The marketing industry is going through a transition and it is a needed one. Now is a great time to tell you what I would like to see in 2017. Live and recorded video is going to be more and more popular this year. There is more, but, you have to find out by listening! I do hope everyone had a great New Years Eve! That you look forward to 2017. Let's all create great content and killer marketing plans.
Google gave small businesses a bigger problem with spammers on its Map app.
In 2017 I think there will be a rise of the marketing journalist.
If your website is not HTTPS, you're in trouble.
